Saturday May 13th, 3-5p, The BassMint in collaboration with Taos Academy's STEM A+ Institute, presents Manifest Destiny, an afternoon of student dj presentations, music, dance, food (potluck) and fun. All ages are invited to enjoy the music selections of Djs: Eli, Red, Panda, Risa, Holla, DJR, Seb, and Savage - eight students from Taos Academy's STEM A+ Program, who have just completed a semester long - seven week course in beginning djing with dj Chrystalline, learning everything from music selection, beat matching, to beat gridding. The STEM A+ Institute offers a variety of semester-long courses to middle and high school students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplines by engaging students in project-based activities guided by community professionals.
The event title "Manifest Destiny," has to do with the premise that inspiration begins as a seed and then spreads out into the community, to the country and globally. The idea that what began as tragedy in our communities through untimely deaths of young people through violence, suicide, overdose is now being transformed into positivity via creative outlets, education and social activism.
