Soul Shakedown
Taos community has experienced multiple tragedies involving youth this past year - from suicides, to overdose, violence, sexual violence, to vehicular accidents. Friday, November 18th, The BassMint Djs, who are ages ages 11-16, will present their first community event, Soul Shakedown, at The BassMint, (1128-C Paseo Del Pueblo Sur just behind Subway, inside The Giving Tree) which focuses on bringing light and hope to the community through providing a fun, safe, drug and alcohol free space for all ages to express themselves through music and dance, absolutely free of charge! All are welcome and invited for an evening of yummy food and positive rhythms with Djs Chrystalline, Leti, Oz, Tosh, and Apalla bringing those soul elevating, shaking and grooving beats from minimal to electro, progressive to tribal house.
The BassMint has been hosting Interactive Learning Workshops for youth and young adults ages 12-27, and opened its doors this past August. Lola Shropshire (11), Oz Leshem (12), Natasha (16) and Isabell McLaughlin (11), four of the graduates from the first Interactive Dj Series had the opportunity to dj for the Paseo's Silent Disco in the heart of Taos Plaza's Gazebo in September. There was such a positive response that evening - it inspired the grads to create their own event. After four weeks, on November 2nd, they completed an Event Production course, with the guidance of Christalyn Concha aka dj Chrystalline, in which they conceptualized, planned, and produced Soul Shakedown.
Extra special thanks to Cid's Food Market for providing food and Anansi Charter School for printing the posters! More info on The BassMint at http://ladydjs.com
